The “Yaoundé City Center” project, which is still encountering some difficulties

Model of the Yaoundé city center project

The “Yaoundé City Center” project involves developing and reconfiguring two major intersections that are regularly congested (Mvan and Elig-Effa), as well as demolishing and rebuilding the Mvan and Messa (Mokolo) bus stations. Also as part of the reconfiguration and redevelopment, the project plans to redevelop the Awae Escalier and Sous-Manguier intersections, rebuild two minibus and taxi terminals (Avenue Mvog-Fouda in Elig-Essono and Rue Marcel Jezouin), and develop hiking trails on Mount Messa. This large-scale project will certainly give the city of Yaoundé a facelift. However, the project is still facing some difficulties, particularly those related to compensation for the local populations affected by the project. One billion is the amount that the affected populations are to receive from the “Yaoundé cœur de ville” project, financed to the tune of 5.5 billion CFA francs by the State of Cameroon and 43 billion by the Debt Reduction and Development Fund (C2D) managed by the French Development Agency (AFD). Despite these difficulties, work is progressing on the ground. It goes without saying that measures are being taken to ensure the visibility of the project for the development and reconfiguration of certain areas of the political capital.
